Jamie Cotton, from Jamesport, MO (hometown Lathrop, MO), has been named the new Green Hills Head Start Director of Home Base and Early Childhood. Jamie holds two associate degrees from North Central Missouri College and a bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in Agriculture Science. She also has a CDA (Child Development Associate) certificate, is a Trauma Smart facilitator, and is certified to train in CPR/First Aide/AED.

Jamie started at NCMC 14 years ago while working at the Ketcham Center while attending classes. She then worked as a transcript clerk and, for the last 10 years, has worked at Head Start as the Professional Development/Support Specialist.

Dr. Lenny Klaver, President, said, “Jamie’s extensive experience and compassion for the Head Start program will make her a vital leader. I look forward to seeing the impactful contributions and success she will undoubtedly achieve in this role.”

Jamie began her role as the new Head Start Director of Home Base and Early Childhood on February 3, 2025, following the retirement of long-time Director Sue Ewigman. Dr. Klaver expressed his gratitude to Sue by saying, “Sue’s long-time dedication and efforts over the years have been instrumental to the success of the Head Start program. Her invaluable leadership, service, and hard work over the past 33 years have greatly contributed to NCMC and the Head Start program. We extend our deepest appreciation for her remarkable commitment."

Jamie said, “I am excited to work with the best team a person can ask for. I believe Head Start and Early Head Start are a vital resource for our communities and look forward to advocating for this program for years to come.”

In partnership with Director Jenny Lewis, Director of Centers and Administration for the Green Hills Head Start program, Jamie will be the Director of Home Base and Early Childhood. Green Hills Head Start is designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children of low-income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, and psychological needs.
